No more handwashing for JW's
by FedUpJW ini was watching a program prompted by the covid-19 scare about youngsters in kindergarten and first grade being taught how to properly wash their hands to get rid of germs.
they were told that twenty seconds was needed, and that to time it they should sing the "happy birthday" song twice.. well i guess we all know that jw's will never be able to sing that song, so i guess they will have to teach their kids how to "take a stand for da troof" and tell their teachers they cannot was their hands anymore.. just think of all the 'periences they can cook up about caleb got the corona-virus and was oh so sick, but he took a stand against one of those pagan celebration inspired songs, and his teacher and several classmates all asked for watchtowers and studies.
hahahaha!.

Covid-19 (Coronavirus) - Status Update Thread
by Simon inthis topic is to focus on status updates & advice (no opinion or politics please).. status.
latest status is that it's serious, probably isn't going to be contained and most large companies are making contingency plans, cancelling large events etc... which i don't think would happen if it was just people being alarmist.
the incubation period means it may have already spread further and infected many more people than are currently known, so expect jumps in the numbers over the coming days and weeks.. tracking.

Today’s Watchtower Study (December ‘19 issue
by BluesBrother in“parents train your children to love jehovah “.
the title says it all really, but par 6 has this piece of advice.. “jesus likened our time to “the days of noah,” and there is no doubt that we are living in “critical times hard to deal with.” (matt.

Older ones may remember similar comments in the past when parenthood and even marriage was discouraged in the printed material. For example the book “Children “ . Oddly this was written as a dialogue between two single people in the WTS , John and Eunice and it concludes on this note...
"Eunice? That's a person named Eunice?" -- Judy Maxwell (Barbra Streisand), What's Up, Doc?

WHY ARE BAT VIRUSES SO DEADLY?- Science Daily.
by fulltimestudent inuseful information for students of history - why are bat viruses so deadly.. a bat virus may be responsible for the highly infectious coronavirus respiratory illness in wuhan china.. long ago, when i was growing up in a tiny fishing village on the far south coast of new south wales, some people still ate flying foxes, which were a type of bat.
they were kept in cages "to fatten them up," then killed and cooked.
i do not recall any specific sicknesses that may have swept that village.. other wild creatures were also eaten.

The ending reveals the source . . .
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5UkXOj8u1Fo
However:
At the end of the movie, with ominous music in the background again, we see a bat grab some fruit and drop it to the pigs below. We see the pig get sold and prepared by the chef that holds hands with Paltrow’s character for a photo. And that is presumably how it all started. In real life, it would likely take several contacts between animals and humans before a virus becomes fully transmissible to humans. It’s also unlikely that there was enough virus on Paltrow’s character’s hands to spread and infect other people. -- https://thehill.com/changing-america/well-being/prevention-cures/481652-what-does-the-movie-contagion-tell-us-about

It's a thread like this that draws up old memories. I was driving from a job today and, at precisely 4:41 p.m., I recalled something Don Adams said to me (circa 1970).
I can't recall which meeting it was and why a newbie would have been called on to conclude with prayer, but I was asked to do so. After all the usual bases were covered, I requested the forgiveness of our sins.
Afterwards, Br. Adams approached and commended me for pronouncing "err" correctly.
Made my day, or evening!

I worked with Karl's wife, Bobbie.
She told me that she had made a pie, which really wasn't very good. Nevertheless, her appreciative husband ate the entire thing without complaint.
True devotion.

Not training speakers/teachers any more?
by eyeslice2 innot having attended any meetings since about 2001, for reasons of safety (sounds a bit dramatic but i don't like my wife being out on her own late at night where we live now), i have started accompanying her to the mid-week meeting.. when i was young, the ministry school and service meeting were central to training brothers to take the lead.
you were assigned instruction talks, then if you cut it, you moved pretty rapidly to public talks - a full 55 mins at the time.
i was just 18 years old when i gave my first public talk and this was a first step to moving rapidly through the ranks.

But anyway, thanks. It could also be a nice name for a Labrador Retriever my wife and I are planning to get. I
Many Biblical characters bore animal names, including names which in the sensibilities of later times would be considered insulting, such as the woman prophet Hulda, whose name means "weasel". In some traditions, Caleb's being a "dog" symbolizes his devotion to God.
